Shirley Scott - Satin Doll

Nowhere could I find an image of Shirley Scott's Satin Doll lp*, which is too bad because it's a good one. This is another in my ongoing Duke tribute and by far one of my favorites. Ripped from my original Prestige lp from 1963. It's Shirley in a straight organ trio setting, swinging Duke like a mutha'! I don't know that I can say much about this record, it speaks for itself. This record was the reason I put the Duke stuff up.

I humbly offer Prestige 7283.

1. Satin Doll
2. It Don't Mean A Thing
3. C Jam Blues
4. Perdido
5. Mood Indigo
6. Things Ain't What They Used To Be
7. Solitude

Shirley Scott - organ
George Tucker - bass
Mack Simpkins - drums
*Thank you cooljazz for locating the cover and passing it my way.

Thanks very much for the Scott posts, always a great listen & good luck with the new blog. The Duke is very absent in my library so I must come back & get an education from you here.

SHIRLEY SCOTT - SATIN DOLL

This is one of several Shirley Scott Prestige albums Fantasy never reissued on CD. So, many thanks for making it available. The stereo rip sounds excellent too.

As you may know, Scott had already recorded an Ellington album for Prestige two years earlier. She must have liked "C Jam Blues", because she played it on both!

That earlier effort was called "Scottie Plays The Duke" and was also never reissued on CD, but it did appear in a mono rip on another blog once upon a time.
